A Quacking Day Out 🦆
Our P3s traded the classroom for the wetlands this week as we headed off to Castle Espie for a day of nature, discovery and plenty of fresh air! It was a brilliant opportunity to see the wonders of the natural world up close and put our teamwork skills to the test.
We started our day by diving into the science of the water cycle. The children learned how water travels from the clouds to the ground and back again. It was fascinating to see how the wetlands at Castle Espie play such a huge part in keeping our environment healthy.
Next, we became experts on our feathered friends. We learned all about duck families and the amazing way a mother duck protects and cares for her brood. Then we did a duckling hunt, thankfully we found all the lost ducklings 🐥
To finish our day, we channeled our inner architects. Working in groups, the children gathered sticks, moss and natural materials to build a giant bird’s nest. This required fantastic communication and cooperation. By the end, we had some sturdy (and very large!) nests that any bird would be proud to call home.
It was a truly memorable day out and the P3 pupils were fantastic representatives of Dundela Primary School. A huge thank you to the staff at Castle Espie for hosting us!
