Beep Beep! P3M is on the Move! 🚢
It has been an incredibly busy and "fast-paced" term in P3M. We have officially traded our classroom for the open road (and the high seas!) as we dived head-first into our Transport topic. From the streets of Belfast to the decks of the Titanic, here is a look at what we’ve been up to.
Life in the Fast Lane 🚦
We started our journey by turning the playground into a bustling metropolis! The children took their learning outdoors, using chalk to map out complex road systems. There was fantastic teamwork as they directed traffic and navigated their cars through the lanes they designed.
Our creativity didn't stop there. After reading the imaginative story “If I Built a Car”, the class became mini-engineers. Using large loose parts, the children worked in groups to build their very own dream cars. We also became data scientists for an afternoon, conducting a traffic survey, carefully tallying every car, bus, and van that passed by!
From Peru to London 🐻
In our Talk for Writing sessions, we’ve been following the adventures of everyone’s favorite bear, Paddington. We had so much fun role-playing the different characters at Paddington Station 🚂
The real challenge, however, was getting Paddington from Peru to London. The children had to reason and collaborate to buy the best resources for boat building to design a vessel that could survive the journey. They then had to test their creations in the water outside to see whose boat stayed afloat!
Ramp Investigation 🚗
We’ve also been busy with some friction-filled science! We conducted a ramp investigation to see which surfaces allowed our cars to travel the furthest. By testing different textures, we discovered which ones had the least friction.
Titanic 🧊
Finally, we stepped back in time to learn all about the Titanic. The children turned into expert researchers, gathering facts from books, educational websites and historical videos. To wrap up the project, P3M worked in peers to create vibrant Titanic posters, showcasing all the amazing facts they discovered. They are doing a brilliant job of communicating information and ideas in clear, organised, and creative ways!
