As part of our space topic, the children took part in a fun and practical numeracy lesson, exploring area. Working in pairs, they used counters to cover pictures of different planets, recording how many counters were needed for each one. This helped them compare sizes and understand that area is about how much space something covers. The children were developing their understanding of area through hands-on investigation and teamwork. The children thoroughly enjoyed the practical approach, collaborative learning, discussing their ideas, and discovering which planet was the biggest and the smallest. A truly out-of-this-world numeracy lesson!
