P2CB Visit the Zoo – Learning About Animals and How to Look After Them
9th May 2025
Our P2 class had a fantastic day out at the zoo as part of our topic on Looking After Animals. We were lucky to have the most beautiful, sunshiny weather to enjoy while we explored and learned!
The children loved seeing the wide variety of animals and discovering more about where they come from. We talked about their native countries, what their natural environments are like, and how each animal has special adaptations to help them survive. From fur that keeps them warm to long legs for running or swimming, we were fascinated to learn how every animal is perfectly suited to its habitat.
One of our favourite animals of the day was the capybara. We were all surprised to learn that capybaras love to stay wet and cool, spending lots of time in the water to keep healthy and happy. This led to some brilliant discussions about what animals need in their environments to stay well cared for.
It was a joy to see the children making meaningful connections with their learning, and the excitement on their faces said it all. This trip helped us deepen our understanding of how to look after animals, both in the wild and in captivity, and we’re looking forward to bringing that learning back into the classroom.
