Year2 Yau🌿 Sunny Suites for Our Garden Friends!

24th Apr 2026

What a glorious week of sunshine we’ve had! Our Year 2 builders took full advantage of the beautiful weather to construct brand-new "bug hotels" on the school grounds using some clever recycling.

Our little architects were hard at work transforming repurposed plastic bottles into cozy homes for our local minibeasts. It was a fantastic hands-on session where the children explored how to turn everyday items into something helpful for nature!

Tiny Homes, Big Ideas

The main challenge was filling our bottle frames with the perfect materials. The children became experts at:

• Measuring and Fitting: Finding the perfect sticks to fit snugly inside the bottles.

• Experimenting: Trying different ways to make long sticks smaller—whether by snapping them with a firm "crunch" or using their boots for leverage to get that perfect fit.

• Cozy Interiors: Tucking in dried grass, crunchy leaves, and colourful fallen flowers to make sure our guests have a five-star stay!

While every child worked on their own individual bottle hotel, it was lovely to see how they naturally gravitated toward one another.
