Year 1Wr engineers 🧱
In Year 1 we have been exploring Traditional Tales and Fairy Tales and we enjoyed reading The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The story inspired us to think carefully about bridges and how they are built.
As part of our World Around Us and STEM learning, we discussed what makes a good bridge. The children shared lots of fantastic ideas and together we decided that a bridge needs to:
1. Stand above the ground
2. Be strong and stable
3. Hold weight so something can safely walk across it
We then became real engineers! 💡
First, we planned our bridge designs, thinking about the materials we would use and how to make them strong.
Next, we moved on to the building stage, carefully creating our bridges using a variety of materials.
Finally, we tested our bridges with the billy goat and troll to see if they were strong enough.
The children showed fantastic planning and problem-solving and we were so impressed with their creativity and determination.
Every bridge was unique, and the results were amazing!
